Parish Education Committee (PEC)

The Parish Education Committee (PEC) operates within the mandate of the Catholic Independent Schools Vancouver Archdiocese (CISVA). The PEC provides support and leadership in the running of St. Catherine’s Elementary. The PEC makes decisions and sets policy to govern the school, providing these decisions fall within the CISVA Board’s policies and regulations. Decisions are made with the approval of the Pastor and in consultation with the Principal. The PEC is responsible for preparing the budget for the operation and maintenance of the school, hiring of staff, and oversees the daily operations of the school.

The PEC is composed of seven lay members of St. Joseph’s Parish and the Pastor who is the Archbishop’s Representative. Our principal and at least one staff member also attend PEC meetings, which are typically held on the third Tuesday of each month.

Any questions or concerns can be emailed to the PEC chairperson at

How do I bring an item forward to the PEC for discussion?
Parents are welcome to attend the monthly PEC meetings. Anyone attending these meetings is there as an observer only and may not address the committee or take part in any discussions. Parents wishing to place a matter before the PEC should advise the chairperson in writing seven (7) days prior to a meeting to have your idea/issue place on the meeting agenda.
How do I express an opinion or concern?
At St. Catherine’s, all parents and students have a voice. We strive to address all concerns and conflicts in a respectful and timely manner. Please refer to the Policy Manual for specific guidelines on the appropriate chain of communication.
